Blax Research

Check the vendor before you hand over your data.

Before you trust a software vendor, an agency or a SaaS provider with your data or your project, we look at what is public: the company register, how long they have existed and who owns them, what they have built, where your data would be stored and with which subcontractors, and how their own public systems look from the outside. You get a written summary with sources and the questions to ask before you sign.

What you get
  • Register entries, ownership and how long the company has existed
  • What they have built: references, products, public code
  • Where your data would be stored, and which subcontractors they name
  • Their public systems from the outside: TLS, security headers, outdated software
  • Public reviews, outages and incidents
  • The questions to ask before you sign

All questions and answers
  1. Is this a credit check?

No. Credit reports are a separate licensed trade. We look at public facts about the company, what it has built and how it runs its technology.

  2. Can you also judge the vendor's offer?

Yes. As your CTO on call we read the offer as a second opinion and, if you like, sit in on the call with the vendor.

    CTO as a Service
  3. Do you scan the vendor's systems?

No. We only look at what any visitor of their public sites can see, like their TLS setup and security headers. Anything deeper needs their consent.
